Chapter 1 (Full)
I slammed my blue locker as I picked my books up from the disgusting floor of my highschool, making sure to keep my head down as I moved through the crowed halls and to my first period class.
"Naruto!" Came the screams of Kiba, my best friend. I looked up, daring to see more than people's shoes for once. Kiba excitedly tapped on the desk next to him and I smiled a bit, moving swiftly to sit next to my brunette friend. Kiba gave me a thumbs up as I looked over to him, smiling under my orange bangs.
"Hey." I muttered, barely audible. I was new here this year, even if I had been here all the first half of school, I was still shy and without very many friends. I kept my head down most of the time, not because I didn't like people, but because I knew they didn't like me. I had been ridiculed since the first month of school when I had been caught kissing another guy at the homecoming football game. Sasuke barely came to school anymore, not like anyone would make fun of him, his usual group of fans still followed him when he actually showed up to school, like nothing had happened between us.
Around the middle of the class period Sasuke finally decided to come to school, taking his spot on my right. I kept my eyes transfixed on his shoes, never once daring to look him in the eye, I hadn't spoken to him for nearly three months now, only sharing random glances into eachother's eyes, or the occasional bump of our shoulders as we awkwardly walked through the city with our friends.
"Naruto." Sasuke's dark-chocolate-like voice echoed in my ears as he bumped my white shoe with his black Vans. I looked to the side, to gaze at his shoulder-lenght black hair, sliding across his shoulders as he moved his face to look at me, his white hands holding a note in them, Sasuke flicked the little blue note onto my graphiti-covered desk and smiled at me. That smile almost melted me right there and I adverted my eyes quickly.
More time slipped away as we were continuously lectured on how Government worked and my teacher arguing his points to each student who dared to think differently than him. My eyes rolled and I looked down to the note in my lap, I still hadn't opened it. I don't know why, maybe I was afraid it would hold words I didn't need to see, like that our kiss was a mistake and that he hate me now. Or that we couldn't be friends anymore because he thought I was a freak.
When the bell finally rang and I was about to leave Sasuke came by my side again and grabbed the note from me. Handing me a Red one instead. "I'll see you at lunch." Was all he said before he turned out of the room and glided off to his next class.
My heart pounded through my next two classes as I still hadn't opened the note. 'Ugh, what's wrong with me? Why can't I just open the stupid note?' I focused on the teacher for once, wishing I could just forget about that stupid red note on my notebook. "And then you need to prove how you know what the measure of this triangle-" I stopped listening and looked to the walls for a distraction, my eyes searched the pale green walls of my bland highschool, searching for an imperfection, a poster, SOMETHING to distract me from that red note. Proving to be too difficult of a task, I just faced the facts and shifted uncomfortably in my plastic seat. That stupid red note sat so comfortably on my notebook, so innocent, 'Naruto' scrawled out on the front in Sasuke's perfect handwriting.
Lunch quickly came next, I still hadn't opened that damn note. My feet shuffled slowly outside, and to where I ate lunch with my friends every day. Only today, I didn't feel like being with the crowd, where I could just continue to be ignored. I stopped in my tracks, turning to walk to the other side of the field, my white shoes, and the bottom of my jeans collecting dew as I continued to shuffle farther from my friends, my iPod blasting into my ears, threatening to cause hearing damage. I didn't care, I wanted to see who would notice I was gone. Maybe Sasuke would come looking for me. Probably not.
I stared over to where my 'friends' all conversed on the other side of the field. No sign of Sasuke. That Red note still burning a hole in my pocket. "Fine." I sighed to myself and shifted my seating so I could reach into my pants pocket and grab the stupid note. Twisting it through my fingers nervously, I slowly opened it.
'Okay, here's try two. Naruto.
I need to talk to you, now. I knew you wouldn't open this during first period, I knew you'd wait till lunch. So, while you're sitting there wondering where I am you'd be bored enough to open this finally.
Meet me in front of your apartment before lunch ends.
Sasuke <3'
Was that a-a heart?!
I shot up from my sitting position and ran over to the far end of the fence, searching the field to see if anyone was watching my escape, seeing no one, I snuck through the small forest behind our school and into the city, passing the Ramen shop, 21st street, and on to Keinikawa Ave. I looked up from the paved road I walked on, to see Sasuke on the small streatch of pavement, leaning on the gate infront of the door to my single apartment. "Naruto." Sasuke smiled and pushed off of the gate, coming to walk next to me as I grabbed my keys from my pocket. "You're going inside?" I looked up at Sasuke, actually looked at him, not past him like I usually did, actually looked into his charcoal eyes that got lighter around the edges.
"I thought-"
"You thought wrong. We're going to Japan Town." My eyes lit up as Sasuke said those last words, Japan town and China town where my favourite places to be in California. I stuffed my keys back into my pocket and kept walking with Sasuke down the sidewalk toward the crowded bus stop. Once the bus finally came after what felt like hours, Sasuke and I boarded, putting our passes up infront of the scanner, waiting for the beep, and taking our seats in the fourth car. I nearly jumped in my seat the whole ride in anticipation of my favorite place in the whole wide world.
"You're never like this anymore." I stopped bouncing and put my head down. Sasuke put his hand on mine and moved his face so he could see me. "Why do you hide when ever I pay any attention to you?" His soft voice rung in my eardrums as he moved the hair out of my eyes.
"Homecoming." I muttered softly into my hands.
"What was that?" Sasuke was mocking me, I knew I shouldn't have come with him.
"When we... You know." Sasuke laughed and tried moving my face so I would look at him, I refused and kept my eyes fixed on the floor.
"Naruto." I loved the way he said my name, softly rolling the 'r'. "Naruto, look at me." My eyes stayed glued to the floor, I refused to look at him, a firey blush rose in my cheeks and tears welled in my eyes. "Fine." Sasuke grabbed me by the arm and drug me out of the bus and onto the side walk infront of the Northern side of the JT mall. "At least try and have fun." I looked up at Sasuke and he smiled down at me, erasing all of my worries.
"Sa-" My words were cut off when Sasuke pulled me forward and into the auto-matic doors ahead, pink Katakana was scribbled over the black walls, speaking of a sale in the hair salon up stairs. I looked around at all the resteraunts I passed, taking note of all the places that had ramen. Sasuke continued to drag me to the other side of the north wing and down the small bridge, past the cupcake shop and over to Kataemika Book Store. "Hey."
"Nope, later. First I want to go some where else." Sasuke pulled me up some more stairs and over to a glass wall decorated with Posters for various video games.
"The Arcade?" I looked up to the black haired beauty next to me with a puzzled look.
"Yeah, I wanted to check out your skills in Ninja Storm." I blushed and looked down to my feet, I was horrible at video games, let alone Ninja games. "Come on, I'll go easy on you." I let out a groan as I was pulled into the large room littlered with children and colourful games. One particularly large Pikachu game caught my eye, but I was pulled else where as Sasuke guided me to the far corner of the Arcade.
I lost. Badly. I think I got, what, one point? Video Games are so not my thing. Sasuke and I now sat at a little two person table outside of the Cako cupcake store. My fingers were covered in marshmellows as I swallowed the remains of my s'mores cupcake. "Hey, Sasuke, could you get me a napkin?" Sasuke smirked and got up from his seat, swiftly placing his chair next to mine. Holding a napkin in his hand, Sasuke sat down again and grabbed my hand. "Sasuke, I can- Ahhh!" Sasuke placed my index finger in his mouth and licked off the sticky marshmellow. I tore my hand from him and looked to the ground, "Napkin, please." Sasuke actually looked surprised as he handed me the napkin and moved his chair back to it's original place.
The rest of the day went on peacefully, Sasuke was still acting weird, standing close enough that our shoulders bumped and trying to get me to read Yaoi in the Book Store. But other than the ocasional weird moment with him, I had fun, spending way too much money on the cutest little things I could find, and eating my fix of Ramen from about seven different restraunts. When we finally left the mall it was dark out, the faded stars barely visible in the city.
"Hey, Sasuke, where are my keys?" I rummaged around in my pockets for my house keys, but coming up blank. "Damn it!" I cursed myself for being so careless, my extra key was in my locker at school, and I wouldn't be able to get in at this time.
"You can stay with me, come on." I stared at the ground as heat rose in my cheeks.
"St-stay, with you?" I stammared, wiping my sweaty palms on my pants as I shifted my shopping bags to my other hand. Sasuke didn't answer, just walked ahead to the bus stop and stared up at the stars.
"Hey, Naruto?" I moved next to Sasuke and looked up at the stars too, slightly bumping his shoes with mine.
"Hm?"
"You had fun, right?" I shifted my footing and looked to the moon.
"Y-Yeah, I did." I smiled to myself, I liked hanging out with Sasuke again, but I had the suspician that he had a hidden motive. Who just randomly, after three months of not talking, starts randomly wanting to hang out?! Giving you weird notes in class and taking you shopping durring a school day? The bus soon came into view as we stood on the sidewalk, while people in various costumes and out fits passed us. The cold October wind made me unfomfortably cold and I zipped up my jacket even higher to conserve more heat.
Once the bus stopped and we had gotten our seats Sasuke finally talked again. "So, are we going to my house or are you sleeping on the sidewalk infront of your apartment tonight?" Sasuke laughed to himself as he said this and shifted in his seat to wrap his arm around me.
"H-huh?" A heat rose in my cheeks again, but I didn't move away. Instead I scooted closer to Sasuke, glad that he was warm, while my whole body shook from the freezing air from the vents near my feet. "I guess I'm staying with you." My voice shook slightly as I got comfertable against Sasuke's body.
Sasuke smirked and looked down at me before taking out his phone. "Well, it's 10:14 right now, and we'll be at our stop at 10:44, sound good?" I nodded into his jacket and brought my knees up to my chest, hugging them with one arm as I snaked my left arm around Sasuke. It was nice, acting like we were a couple again, but I still couldn't shake the feeling he was just toying with me, seeing if I still liked him so he could make fun of me. Leading me on then shoving the fact that the kiss was a mistake in my face.
I shoved those thoughts away and snuggled closer to him, loving the warmth between us.
This was the first time I had actually been inside Sasuke's house. Making the most of it while I was staying here, I moved around the small apartment, poking and prodding anything interesting, which wasn't much, sadly. Sasuke's house was really clean, with almost nothing in it. He barely even had enough furniture to fill his three rooms. Not that I'd seen all of them, only the kitchen asn the living room, I where I was at the moment. I stared up at the ceiling fan, and sighed. My legs felt weak from walking with Sasuke all day, I practically fell onto the black couch. I sighed in relief as I snuggled further into the cushions, my ears picked up footsteps behind me but I refused to move to check if Sasuke was there. Soon a warm, blue blanket was draped over me, and I snsuggled into it's warmth.
"Thanks, Sasuke." I sighed into the blanket as he came to sit next to me. Sasuke laughed as my eye lids became heavier and put his arm around me.
"Dobe."
I woke up alone, a warm blanket wrapped around me. Only now I was surrounded by deep purple walls, a single window shined into the room from behind me. I sat up, still half asleep and rubbed my eyes.
"Hey, dobe, you're finally up." I opened my eyes to see Sasuke's dark figure in the doorframe, one arm holding him up as he casually leaned against the wood frame.
"Hey, what time is it?" Sasuke moved from the door and sat on the bed, next to me. He smiled down at me and moved my orange hair out of my blue eyes.
"12:40 PM. YOu refused to get up when I did, three hours ago." I finally started to wake up and I blinked. I was in Sasuke's bed, Sasuke was shirtless, and so was I... I lifted the covers off of me and saw my tan stomach, all the way down to my orange boxers, okay, at least I'm not naked. "I made breakfast." Sasuke blurted out as he started to get up.
I blushed nervously as I got out from under the covers and follwed Sasuke out of the room and into his tiny living room. He motioned for me to sit on the couch and I cautiously watched him as I sat down. Sasuke smiled, almost, pleased with himself and went to the kitchen. My eyes wandered, studying the ceiling for patterns to occupy myself and keep my brain from straying to thoughts of what might've happened last night that Sasuke isn't saying.
He was nervous, obviosly, speaking quickly and avoiding contact with my eyes. "Here." Sasuke broke me of my daze as he came beside me with a plate of bacon and a bowl of Ramen. "I didn't know if you'd eat bacon, so I made you some miso ramen too." Sasuke smiled down at his work and finally looked at me again. He actually looked genuinly happy, his eyes almost sparkled, I noticed I was staring and looked down to the Ramen bowl. "
"Uh, thanks."
I sat on the floor, Sasuke's legs on either side of me, the silver controler in my hand shook as various things went on on the screen infront of us. The screen paused and something poked the top of my head, I looked up at Sasuke, on the couch, and blinked. "I know you don't like video games." I looked down at the controler and sighed. "Hey, did you ever find your keys?" My eyes widened, I had totally forgotten about my missing keys.
I stood up and searched my pockets, but noticed... I was still in only my boxers. Sasuke snickered behind me and I sat back down infront of him, red faced. He bent down and placed his head ontop of mine, "We could go look for them in the mall if you want?" His white arms snakeed around my bare stomach and I shivered.
"Sasuke?" My voice shook and I looked up at him.
"Hm?"
"What... What happened last night?" Sasuke smirked and leaned back into the black cushins.
"Well, we came home, you fell asleep on the couch and when I tried to wake you up you started taking off your clothes and walked into my room. So I let you sleep and I slept out here." My face burned and I stared at the floor. "You're really cute when you're sleeping." Sasuke looked down at me and smiled lazily. He started to get up and slid down the couch, landing next to me on the floor. "Let's go look for your keys."
Sasuke stood and walked out of the room, leaving me alone. I stood up and streatched, searching for my clothes on the ground.
Once I was dressed, Sasuke finally came out of his room, fully dressed. I moved from the couch to the door in silence as Sasuke followed, pulling his coat on. I opened the door, stepping into the hallway of Sasuke's building. "We should hurry, the next bus leaves in 5 minutes." I nodded and followed Sasuke outside and down to the bus stop. It wasn't that I was afraid to talk to him after what I did last night, more, I didn't know what to say...
